Surgery That Serves the Restoration
Most oral surgery at Select Dental Implants exists to make a restoration possible. A tooth comes out so an implant can go in. A ridge is rebuilt so a post has something to hold. A sinus floor is lifted so an upper molar can be replaced at all. Because the same practice plans the surgery and delivers the final tooth, the surgical decisions are made with the finished result already in view.
That sounds obvious and often isn’t. When surgery and restoration live in different offices, implants get placed at angles that make a natural-looking crown difficult, or grafts get shaped without knowing what will sit on them. Planning both together on one 3D scan removes that gap.

What Your Surgical Day Actually Looks Like
You’ll have reviewed the plan, the cost, and the sedation choice at a previous visit — nothing gets decided while you’re in the chair. On the day, we confirm your health history and medications, administer anesthesia and any sedation you’ve chosen, and complete the procedure. Most single-site surgery takes under an hour.
Afterward you go home with written instructions, any prescriptions, and a number to call. We check in, and we’d rather hear from you about something minor than have you wait and wonder about something that isn’t.

Do I need to go somewhere else for oral surgery?
For implant-related surgery, almost never. Extractions, socket preservation, bone grafting, sinus lifts, and implant placement are all performed here by Dr. Rafie, who has practiced implant and surgical dentistry since 1992. Rare, complex cases needing a hospital setting are referred — and we tell you that up front rather than discovering it mid-treatment.
Will I be put to sleep?
That’s your choice within what’s clinically appropriate. Most implant and extraction surgery is done comfortably under local anesthesia; nitrous oxide adds relaxation and wears off before you drive home; oral conscious sedation is available for longer appointments or significant anxiety. How long is recovery from oral surgery?
Most patients take it easy for two to three days, with swelling peaking around 48–72 hours and then improving steadily. Desk work is usually fine within a day or two; strenuous exercise waits about a week. Written aftercare instructions come home with you and a direct line stays open.
Is surgery done before or at the same time as the implant?
It depends on your bone and the site. Socket preservation happens at the moment of extraction; minor grafting can sometimes be done in the same visit as implant placement; larger grafts and sinus lifts usually heal for several months first. The 3D scan determines the sequence, not a template.
