Dental Implants With Diabetes: What ‘Well-Controlled’ Really Means

Diabetes does not automatically disqualify you from dental implants. Well-controlled diabetes is compatible with successful implant treatment; uncontrolled blood sugar is what raises the risk of infection and slow healing.

Implants heal by osseointegration — your bone fusing to the titanium post over several months. High glucose levels impair the small blood vessels and immune response that healing depends on, which is why control matters more than the diagnosis.

What surgeons look for

  • A stable, managed A1C — discussed with you and, when helpful, your physician
  • No active gum disease (people with diabetes are more prone to it — we screen carefully)
  • A realistic healing plan, sometimes with longer integration time before the final teeth

Patients with long-standing, well-managed diabetes get implants routinely. If your control is not where it needs to be yet, we’ll tell you honestly — and treatment can usually proceed once it is.

Wondering what this means for your own case? A consultation at Select Dental Implants includes a cone-beam 3D scan and an honest, itemized answer — call (951) 672-6788 or request an appointment.
